Steak And Kidney Pie
Ingredients:
750g rump steak
500g beef kidney
1 tablespoon plain flour
1/4 teaspoon white pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
stock or water
Suet Crust Pastry,
Plain Shortcrust Pastry, or
Cheese Pastry (your choice)
Method:
Split kidneys and remove the core, skin and any other hard matter.
Cut into 2" pieces, and cover with salt water for an hour.
Drain, and wipe beef with a cold cloth.
Cut into 2" pieces.
Sprinkle kidney and beef with flour, salt, pepper, nutmeg and a little stock.
Place all ingredients into a heatproof slightly-oiled casserole dish (or large pie plate). Place a cover of pastry of your choice over the top of the dish.
Bake in an oven or about 1 1/2 hours at 180°C.
Serve with mashed potato and fresh green buttered peas.
